Gelato vs. Ice Cream

You may find it surprising that we have yet to take a side in the Gelato vs. Ice Cream debate. Its important to clarify that these are completely different products, one born of the other due to advances in technologies during the last century.

Artisanal gelato, meant to be produced and consumed directly, requires no additives or preservatives. Additionally, it is produced in a way which adds very little air and volume. Ice cream, on the other hand, is generally intended to be stored for longer periods and contains a larger quantity of air.

While we remain indebted to the many contributions the ice cream industry has made to our craft, we simply love gelato more! Its rich flavor and lower fat and air content translate immediately into taste. As is so often the case, what constitutes progress is not always best.
