L’Arte del Gelato has its “historical” retail store inside the world-famous Chelsea Market, at 75 Ninth Avenue and with the High Line passing through the 10th Avenue side of the building. Chelsea Market is one of the most recognizable indoor food halls in the world. Located on the border of Manhattan’s West Chelsea and Meatpacking districts, it includes restaurants, food stalls, and shops below office space and television production facilities. Chelsea Market was constructed in the 1890s and was originally the site of the National Biscuit Company (Nabisco) factory complex where the Oreo cookie was invented and produced. The complex was redeveloped in the 1990s and features a retail concourse at ground level with office space above. Chelsea Market lies within the “Gansevoort Market Historic District”, which is recognized by New York State and National Register of Historic Places.
If this is not enough to make it an exquisite and prestigious destination in New York, we can still add the fact that Chelsea Market has been functioning as a hybrid urban public square/high-end food court and, in addition to restaurants and food vendors like Amy’s Bread, One Lucky Duck, Jacques Torres Chocolates and Buddakan, it is home to stores like Posman Books and Bowery Kitchen Supply, temporary pop-up stores and exhibitions, and also provides free public WiFi. Let us provide some numbers: Chelsea Market currently includes over 1.2 million square feet (111,484 sq m) of space, with 40,500 square feet (3,763 sq m) devoted to food provision. The food hall includes more than 55 vendors and sees an average of over 9 million visitors per year (approximately 28,000–35,000 daily).
Right at the front end of the main corridor, by the 10th-Ave side of the building, L’Arte del Gelato store is a lovely pink corner that sticks out thanks to its iconic logo and signage. Care for details is what we pay attention the most: take a moment to appreciate the corporate style in the many co-ordinates such as napkins, spoons, menus. Beside them all you’ll always meet a friendly and professional staff in a classic-style uniform that has its embroidered made in Italy, with love.
