Kids and adults love the Natural History Museum! Kids and adults love gelato, too! For 125 years, the American Museum of Natural History has been one of the world’s preeminent science and research institutions, renowned for its collections and exhibitions that illuminate millions of years of the earth’s evolution, from the birth of the planet through the present day. Moreover, it is always a lovely, entertaining and wonder-full walk among a stunning set of natural dioramas where curiosity is continuosly fostered and inspiration boosted.

Located by Theodore Roosevelt Park, across the street from Central Park, the museum is actually a complex made up of 26 interconnected buildings. It houses 45 permanent exhibition halls, and features a planetarium and a tematic library. The collection features something like over 34 million specimens of plants, animals, fossils, minerals, rocks, meteorites. Among them are human remains and human cultural artifacts as well as specialized collections for frozen tissue and genomic and astrophysical data. The museum has a full-time scientific staff of 225, sponsors over 120 special field expeditions each year, and averages about five million visits annually. It is impressive to read that the one mission statement of the American Museum of Natural History is: “To discover, interpret, and disseminate—through scientific research and education—knowledge about human cultures, the natural world, and the universe.”

Though best known for its spectacular T. Rex skeletons and incredible hanging blue whale, the story of this Upper West Side museum isn’t just one of dinosaurs and fossils. Move over David Attenborough: did you know the Museum’s Carl Akeley filmed the first footage of Gorillas in their natural habitat in 1925 and advocate for a Gorilla sanctuary in the Congo back then? Or have you ever heard that on October 12, 1951, the Hayden Planetarium helped kick off the Space Race by hosting the First Annual Symposium on Space Travel? Speakers at the event considered the possibility of a trip to Mars, the engineering of satellite vehicles, the legal aspects of space travel, and “space medicine. So many inspiring contents at the Museum, and what’s best than enjoy your time with a kid-friendly (and adult-friendly) gelato before or after your tour aor activity?

Our lovely cart welcomes you seasonally in springtime, summer and early autumn: spot the pink tent and pick up your favorite flavors: it’s going to be a merry break for a fun museum tour! Nevertheless the Museum is perfectly located in proximity of the stunning Central Park, providing the perfect setting for a gelato-based pick-nick outdoor.

The renowned High Line in New York is a urban playground running from Hudson Yards to the northern edge of Chelsea. NYC’s elevated park is certainly one of the popular attractions everyone needs to check off their list, and it’s the perfect activity to take visitors from out of town. Everyone knows it was once a rail track, which went out of use in 1980. In 2009, the 1.45-mile-long strip was transformed into what is now considered one of the most unique parks in NYC: the abandoned spur has been redesigned as a “living system” drawing from multiple disciplines which include landscape architecture, urban design, and ecology. In fine weather, it features wildflowers, greenery and outdoor art installations in addition to killer views of New York’s skyline. By September 2014, the park had nearly five million visitors annually, and in 2019, it had eight million visitors per year.

The line has been depicted in a variety of media before its redevelopment. The 1979 film Manhattan includes a shot of the High Line as director and star Woody Allen speaks the first line: “Chapter One. He adored New York City.” Other works with scenes on the High Line since its conversion include, among the others, the Simpsons episode “Moonshine River” and the film, What Maisie Knew.

The initial section of the high Line houses seasonal food-trucks and kiosks featuring a wide range of different delicacies from all over the world. Italian artisanal gelato is a fresh and flavorful match to a sunny-day walk in the city: you can spot our cart from the colorful design and the seasonal menus on display on the easels.

From May to October (you are welcome to double check opening hours on our website and Social Media pages) L’Arte del Gelato opens its seasonal Gelato Cart at the very heart of the prestigious Lincoln Center New York. Our cart is located right in the main square and it rejoices of the beautiful fountain water-games.

The ensemble of buildings and public spaces of Lincoln Center are the product of a group of prominent architects including Gordon Bunshaft, Eero Saarinen, Wallace Harrison and Philip Johnson. Lincoln Center has become an icon inextricably linked with New York. Its Central Plaza, North Plaza, the conversion of 65th Street from a service corridor into a new central spine, the transformation of three blocks of Lincoln Center’s frontage at Columbus Avenue and eventually, Damrosch Park, are a urban solution that provides an unmistakable destination in town. To those who are familiar with Italian Architecture, it recalls the futuristic rarefied atmosphere of the EUR neighborhood in Rome, still more delicate.

Fully named Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, it houses nationally and internationally renowned performing arts organizations including the New York Philharmonic, the Metropolitan Opera, and the New York City Ballet. Juilliard School of Music also became part of the Lincoln Center complex. Being the quintessential center of Arts in New York, the Lincoln Center sounds as the perfect location for the “arte del gelato”: their dedication to the harmony in music and dance is for sure an echo to the delicious harmony of taste and ingredients of our gelati and sorbetti. What’s better than enjoying a pre- or after-show sweet treat or sun-bath with a fresh cono or coppetta by your side?

The World Trade Center Transportation Hub in Lower Manhattan was officially opened to the public on March 2016, replacing the PATH train station that was destroyed in the 9/11 attacks to Twin Towers. It provides access to Port Authority Trans-Hudson (PATH) commuter trains to New Jersey and 11 New York City subway lines,  used daily by 250,000 commuters. Adjacent to the Ground Zero memorial is the Hub’s centerpiece, the Oculus, designed by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava to resemble a dove taking flight. The structure is formed by softly-curving, white, steel ribs that rise from below the ground to form an elliptical dome over a vast concourse. The transparency of the structure allows light to flood through onto the grey and white marble floors below, so that when you are inside you get the impression of a very large plaza and discover a secret place, which gets a lot of light during the day – the same light condition inside the station as walking in the street. From an architectural standpoint, this stretch of light is an important element, as it illuminates the space in an aesthetically pleasing way. However, its intention transcends function, as its primary role is symbolic.

Located right in the middle of the bright Oculus’ Plaza interior, L’Arte del Gelato kiosk opened back in October 2019 with an exceptional retail solution: a sophisticated custom-designed, hand-crafted kiosk that looks as bright as its surrondings and rejoices with the vitality of commuters and visitors. The design was curated by a New York based architect and carried out by a high-end woodwork company in partnership with an Italian decorator artist. While dimensions and proportions are in harmony with the vaste environment at the Oculus, the decorative logos and structural elements were hand-painted and finished in faux Portuguese marble in order to highlight the artisanal craftsmanship-oriented brand.

The Oculus’ view allows visitors to appreciate the precision and care for all of the details. Handcrafted pieces manage to preserve and enhance the vision of this distinctive vintage inspired design with a precise, accurate and detailed rendering but with the warmth, patience and uniqueness of the artisanal touch. We succeeded in evoking a simple charm and the impression of a historical Italian gelateria: a truly handmade kiosk for an excellent hand-made gelato.

L’Arte del Gelato has its “historical” retail store inside the world-famous Chelsea Market, at 75 Ninth Avenue and with the High Line passing through the 10th Avenue side of the building. Chelsea Market is one of the most recognizable indoor food halls in the world. Located on the border of Manhattan’s West Chelsea and Meatpacking districts, it includes restaurants, food stalls, and shops below office space and television production facilities. Chelsea Market was constructed in the 1890s and was originally the site of the National Biscuit Company (Nabisco) factory complex where the Oreo cookie was invented and produced. The complex was redeveloped in the 1990s and features a retail concourse at ground level with office space above. Chelsea Market lies within the “Gansevoort Market Historic District”, which is recognized by New York State and National Register of Historic Places.

If this is not enough to make it an exquisite and prestigious destination in New York, we can still add the fact that Chelsea Market has been functioning as a hybrid urban public square/high-end food court and, in addition to restaurants and food vendors like Amy’s Bread, One Lucky Duck, Jacques Torres Chocolates and Buddakan, it is home to stores like Posman Books and Bowery Kitchen Supply, temporary pop-up stores and exhibitions, and also provides free public WiFi. Let us provide some numbers: Chelsea Market currently includes over 1.2 million square feet (111,484 sq m) of space, with 40,500 square feet (3,763 sq m) devoted to food provision. The food hall includes more than 55 vendors and sees an average of over 9 million visitors per year (approximately 28,000–35,000 daily).

Right at the front end of the main corridor, by the 10th-Ave side of the building, L’Arte del Gelato store is a lovely pink corner that sticks out thanks to its iconic logo and signage. Care for details is what we pay attention the most: take a moment to appreciate the corporate style in the many co-ordinates such as napkins, spoons, menus. Beside them all you’ll always meet a friendly and professional staff in a classic-style uniform that has its embroidered made in Italy, with love.
